Attic spray foam in Roswell

How attic spray foam works

Closed-cell or a hybrid shows up when the spec wants more R-value in less depth or a vapor retarder against the sheathing.
Prep is the unglamorous half. Recessed lights get boxed or replaced, flues get clearance, old batts get pulled if they are in the way, and the installer decides whether soffit and ridge vents stay. Then the foam is applied in lifts, trimmed if it is open-cell, and covered with an ignition barrier where code requires one. You are buying an air-sealed thermal boundary, not a coating that can be painted over a dirty attic.
Two different attic jobs
Floor application. Foam or a hybrid system at the ceiling plane keeps the attic hot and outside. Vents stay. This is closer to a traditional insulation upgrade and can pair with blown-in on top of air sealing.
Underside of the roof deck. Foam turns the attic into conditioned space. Ducts and air handlers that currently sit in a 140°F environment start living closer to indoor temperatures. This is the more expensive job and the one that changes ventilation, recessed lights, and sometimes roofing details.
Do not mix the two in your head when you compare bids. A floor-seal quote and a roof-deck quote are different scopes. If the written estimate does not say which plane gets foam, ask before you sign.

Should the attic stay vented after foam?
It depends on where the foam goes. Foam on the attic floor can leave a vented attic above. Foam on the underside of the roof deck creates an unvented, conditioned attic and the soffit/ridge vents are usually closed. The installer should state which assembly they are selling.
Can I just blow more cellulose over the old batts?
Often yes, and it can be cheaper. It will not air-seal can lights, hatches, and top plates. If summer rooms stay hot with existing insulation already covering the joists, air leakage and radiant heat are the likely culprits — which is why people look at foam.
Will foam in the attic help my evaporative cooler or AC?
