Crawl space spray foam in Roswell

Closed-cell, in a hole
This is almost always closed-cell. The installer works on their back, ventilates during the spray, and keeps combustion appliances isolated. They coat either the underside of the floor joists or the inside of the stem walls. Thickness is an inch count. There is no “fill the bay until it looks full” the way there is in a stud wall.
If they are bringing the crawl inside the building envelope, vents get sealed, stem walls get foam, and poly goes down on the soil so moisture does not cook off into what is now indoor air. If the crawl stays vented, foam usually goes on the floor underside and the vents stay. Those two plans fight each other. A bid that mixes them is a problem.
Why the floors feel worse than the forecast
A January night near 23°F plus a vented crawl is cold floors by breakfast. Stack effect then yanks that air up through plumbing penetrations into the hall. People replace the furnace first. The hole under the house is still open.
This valley is not a swamp. Irrigation laterals, bad grade, and leaking cooler lines still wet corners. Foam with no ground cover leaves that moisture sitting there.
A bid should name the assembly, not just “foam the crawl”:
- Closed-cell on the floor joists, or on the stem walls if the crawl is coming inside
- 6-mil or heavier poly on the dirt, taped and terminated
- Vents sealed or left open, matching the assembly they sold you
- A way to still inspect for termites and get back in
A crawl is a confined space. Ask how they ventilate during the spray and when you can sleep in the house again. CID rules and the manufacturer’s ignition barrier still apply down there.
Foam in the crawl and a raw attic is a half job if July bills are the complaint. If only the floors are miserable, start under the house and leave the attic for later. Write which season is driving you crazy. Closed-cell and attic foam are the matching scopes.
My house is on a slab. Do I even have a crawl?
Plenty of Roswell ranches do not. Rim joists and walls still matter on raised floors, additions, and anything with a cellar. Describe what you can see from outside or through a floor hatch.
Will foam fix the cold floors in January?

Do I need a dehumidifier after?
